The past few weeks have held a relatively new fashion trend in the halls of Medford High, Flannel Friday. The students at MHS certainly are making a statement, every Friday the halls are decked not with balls of holly but lumberjack attire. When I asked a few students who participate in “Flannel Friday” I got several different answers but all were entirely relevant.
Jackie McLaughlin says, “it just gives us a sense of unity, one school, one student body, one type of shirt” this certainly is interesting, other than spirit week and pep rallies, we students have never really been the unifying type, but now we’re taking it upon ourselves to change that.
Darren McFadden, who had a large part in these organized Flannel Fridays says, “There has always been the idea of a Flannel Friday, but there’s never been a concrete plan to organize it, so I thought I might as well try it out, and it turns out to be pretty widely accepted.” This is true; the past few weeks we’ve been seeing a lot more students take part in this new fashion trend.
If you ask this reporter, this new movement is a statement the students a Medford High are making, “We are here, we are one student body, and we are united.”
