In the past, students at Medford High School have been offered the opportunity to travel to Europe and South America during February and April breaks. This coming February, there is a trip being planned to Puerto Rico. The students who went on the trip this year have only given positive feedback. Due to popular student demand, the foreign language department opted to offer the trip to Puerto Rico for a second year. The trip is arranged by Vamanos Tours in Delaware. Students enjoyed a hike through El Yunque rainforest, swimming in a bioluminescent lagoon and coastal beaches along with visiting local markets, sightseeing, and salsa dancing. Plans for revamping the list of activities are already underway. “I would like to add in more beach time to give the students a chance to relax after long days of hiking. There’s a wonderful museum in Ponce that is world renowned that I’d like to take the kids to see,” says Nelida Lepore. She sayings that visiting Arecibo, which is the world’s largest radio satellite, is another possibility that they are looking into.
Students interested in going on the trip must have good attendance and academic standing. They must have no suspensions on record for the past academic year and are required to obtain the endorsement of two of their academic teachers. “I had an amazing experience this year and I’m planning on going again. I’m excited!” says Rhianna Depriest, an incoming senior at Medford High.
Students or teacher chaperones should contact Mrs. Lepore at email@example.com or visit Mrs. Bowler in the main office for more information.
